How Bell Recruitment Hires for FMCG Employers

Send us the job description and we start the search within 24 hours. This page explains what happens from your first call to your new hire’s start date, so you know what to expect at each step.

How we recruit, step by step

  1. The brief

Before we search, we sit down with you to understand the role and the business behind it. We ask what the job really involves, who it reports to, and what the first year should deliver. We also ask what experience is essential and what’s a bonus, and what kind of person will fit your team.
  2. The search begins within 24 hours

Once we have the job description, we go straight to our network across food, drink and FMCG in Northern Ireland and Ireland. That includes people who aren’t actively looking. Many of the best candidates never apply to adverts, so we approach them directly and in confidence.
  3. Candidate assessment

We interview every candidate ourselves before you see them. We test their experience against your brief, look at what they’ve actually achieved, and consider how they’ll fit your culture and your team. We check that the move makes sense for them as well as for you.
  4. The shortlist

You see only the strongest matches. Each one comes with our notes: what they’ve achieved, what they’re looking for, and why we think they’re right for the role.
  5. Interviews and offer

We arrange interviews and gather feedback from both sides. We also help with salary and package discussions, and keep everyone informed until an offer is accepted. Candidates hear from us at every stage, which protects your reputation as an employer.
  6. Start date and 90-day guarantee

We stay in touch with your new hire right up to their start date and through their first weeks. If someone we place leaves within 90 days, we’ll find a replacement.

About Crust & Crumb

Crust & Crumb is a leading manufacturer of freshly prepared flatbreads, pizza bases, tortillas, wraps and garlic breads. It supplies major retail and foodservice customers globally from three sites: Derrylin, Craigavon and Ballyconnell.

  • DerrylinCo Fermanagh, NI
  • CraigavonCo Armagh, NI
  • BallyconnellCo Cavan, ROI

The challenge

Crust & Crumb needed two senior leaders who could support its growth across multiple sites, two jurisdictions and a demanding customer base. Both roles sit close to the top of the business and carry direct influence over group strategy.

The brief raised four specific hiring challenges:

01

A small, specialist talent pool

Each role called for senior experience in food manufacturing, FMCG or a similarly regulated industry, ideally with bakery or chilled and ambient food exposure.

02

Cross-border, multi-site operations

The procurement lead would run supply across sites in Fermanagh and Cavan. Candidates needed to manage multi-site supply chains, cross-border sourcing, and commodity and currency risk.

03

High-profile customer accounts

The foodservice lead would own relationships with major QSR chains and national foodservice distributors. Candidates needed proven credibility with senior buyers at that scale.

04

Strict compliance standards

Both roles operate within BRCGS AA and Sedex frameworks, so candidates had to understand food safety and ethical sourcing.

Our approach

Bell Recruitment ran both searches end to end, from defining the roles to managing offers.

  1. Defining the roles. We worked with Crust & Crumb's leadership to write a full job description for each position. Each set out the role's purpose, reporting lines, key responsibilities and an essential versus desirable candidate profile.
  2. Mapping the market. We targeted senior procurement and commercial leaders across food manufacturing, bakery, FMCG and foodservice distribution in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Great Britain.
  3. Screening against the brief. Candidates were assessed on sector experience, scale of accounts or spend managed, multi-site leadership and knowledge of BRCGS and Sedex standards.
  4. Shortlisting and interviews. We presented a focused shortlist for each role and supported the interview process.
  5. Offer and onboarding. We managed offer negotiations and kept candidates engaged through to their start date.

Head of Foodservice / Commercial Manager

The Head of Foodservice / Commercial Manager owns and grows Crust & Crumb's foodservice and quick service restaurant (QSR) portfolio. The role is based at Portadown, with travel to customer sites across the UK and Ireland.
